Yediyurappa gets anticipatory bail in pocso case
The High Court of Karnataka on Friday granted anticipatory bail to 81-year-old former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa.

BENGALURU - While hearing a plea to quash Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) case filed against him, the High Court of Karnataka on Friday granted anticipatory bail to 81-year-old former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa.
A woman alleged that her 17-year-old daughter sexual assault by former Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Central Parliamentary Board member B.S. Yediyurappa when she and her daughter met the BJP leader at his Bengaluru residence seeking some help. The alleged sexual assault on a minor is said to have taken place in February last year before a case was filed against Yediyurappa in last March.
Based on her complaint, Sadashivanagar police of Bengaluru city registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Yediyurappa under POCSO Act and also under Indian Penal Code for sexual harassment to a minor. The case against Yediyurappa was handed over to sleuths of Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
However, Yediyurappa denied allegations against him while the mother of the victim alleged Yediyurappa tried to cover up the matter by offering her monetary assistance. Meanwhile, the mother of the victim passed away in May last year.
In the High Court, the State Government argued that Yediyurappa should face trial in the POCSO case. Reacting to the High Court granting anticipatory bail, State BJP president B.Y. Vijayendra stated the High Court in its order has set aside summons served on Yediyurappa by a lower court.
Based on the arguments in the case, Vijayendra, son of Yediyurappa, stated the High Court directed to review the summons served on Yediyurappa.
