Guwahati, Dec 23: AIUDF chief and former MP Maulana Badruddin Ajmal has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take decisive steps to ensure the safety of Hindus in Bangladesh, urging India to act as a global advocate for vulnerable communities.
In a strongly worded letter to the Prime Minister, Ajmal expressed deep concern over rising violence against Hindu minorities in Bangladesh since the formation of the country’s new government. “Reports indicate alarming incidents of attacks on Hindu individuals and places of worship. This is not just a local issue—it demands urgent international attention,” Ajmal stated.
Highlighting India’s historical and cultural ties with Bangladesh, Ajmal appealed for diplomatic intervention. He urged the Indian government to press Dhaka to uphold constitutional rights and ensure accountability for protecting minority communities. “India must leverage its global influence to hold the Bangladeshi government accountable and demand decisive action against perpetrators of violence,” he wrote.
Ajmal’s letter also touched on India’s moral responsibility to stand as a champion for minority rights worldwide.
“The way a nation treats its minorities is a reflection of its ideals of justice and equality. Failing to protect the vulnerable strikes at the very fabric of society,” he emphasized.
Observers note that incidents of violence against Hindus in Bangladesh have escalated in recent months, often targeting religious sites and individuals amid political unrest. Ajmal’s appeal calls for India to act not just as a neighbor but as a global leader advocating for justice.
