V. Harshavardhan Raju assumes charge as Tirupati SP
Tirupati: V. Harshavardhan Raju has assumed charge as the Superintendent of Police (SP) for Tirupati district. A native of Kavali in Nellore district, Raju joined the state police service in 2013 after completing his B. Tech at JNTU Anantapur. He has served in various key roles, including DCP in Vijayawada, SP of Annamayya district, and CID SP in Vijayawada. The SP emphasised Tirupati’s significance as a spiritual, industrial, and educational hub, pledging strict measures to ensure public safety and accountability. He called for enhanced traffic management to reduce highway accidents and measures to address reckless driving in the city. Raju also highlighted concerns over increasing marijuana trafficking through Tirupati, vowing strict action against illegal activities like drug transport, unauthorised transportation of ration rice, and cattle smuggling. He stressed the need for visible policing, expanded surveillance, and systemic reforms to improve efficiency and accountability within the police force. Child rights panel visits juvenile home Visakhapatnam: The members of the Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights mediated a three-day dispute at the girls’ juvenile home where the inmates created a flutter during the last three days. In a press release issued on Friday, commission member Gondu Sitaram detailed their comprehensive approach to resolving the controversy. He directly contacted the Child Welfare Committees of the districts involved—including Eluru, NTR, and Srikakulam—to ensure the safe return of the affected students to their families. Each case was carefully handled in collaboration with the respective district committees, Sitaram said. The commission noted that one case involving a girl from Anantapur district remained under the jurisdiction of the AP High Court and was being processed through appropriate legal channels. Expressing gratitude for the collaborative effort, the commission commended multiple stakeholders for their crucial support in resolving the situation.
