(Representational image)�Vijayawada:�The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation has declared that all slaughterhouses, fish markets, and meat shops will remain closed on 26 January 2025 (Sunday) in observance of Republic Day. This decision follows orders from higher authorities aimed at maintaining public health standards during the national holiday. As per the notice issued by the commissioner, no animals will be permitted for slaughter starting the night of 25 January. Furthermore, all chicken and mutton shops, as well as fish markets within city limits, are barred from operating on the designated day. The commissioner emphasised that strict legal actions will be taken against anyone found violating this directive, including unauthorised slaughtering or selling of meat without proper authorisation. The notice reminds all businesses engaged in the wholesale and retail of meat products to comply and ensure their establishments are closed on this significant day. Every woman should use the Women’s Safety App: SP R. Gangadhara Rao Krishna district superintendent of police (SP) R. Gangadhara Rao urged all women to download the Women’s Safety App introduced by the Andhra Pradesh government to enhance the safety and security of women and children. The SP emphasised the importance of the Women’s Safety App, particularly for residents of business hubs, women’s hostels, and factories. Police officials and staff have been instructed to raise awareness about the app’s features and encourage students and women to install and utilise its services. He advised girls and women to download the app from Google Play Store. The app features a dedicated SOS button that can be used in emergencies, such as travelling alone or during nighttime. By pressing the SOS button, users can receive immediate assistance. The SP explained that pressing the SOS button in critical situations sends alerts to the nearest police station, while pre-set emergency contacts also receive messages and live location updates. The app enables real-time location tracking, allowing police to quickly locate users in need of help. Regarding pre-registered contacts, the SP stated that users can add family members or friends to a pre-set list for sharing messages and locations during emergencies. The app also provides safety tips and precautions for women’s security.
