TGPSC emerges role model for all PSCs
To chalk out measures along with UPSC to check the stranglehold of some coaching institutes during meet in city on Jan. 23
Hyderabad: After drawing massive criticism for 10 years, the Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC) is turning a role model with the reforms initiated by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC), embroiled in a series of controversies, sent its members on a study visit to the TGPSC office on Thursday.
The three member team, including Dr Arun K. Bhagat, Naval Kishore and Narayan Yadav interacted with TGPSC chairman Burra Venkatesham and other officials of the commission to know how they had ushered such positive changes in a short span.
Talking to Deccan Chronicle, Dr Bhagat said that they were highly impressed with the three-time evaluation of question papers at the TGPSC. “We came to know that TGPSC is making use of technology for speedy evaluation”, he said.
He appreciated selecting 1:50 candidates from the preliminary to the next level of exam and removing the interviews in the selection process.
Maintaining the job calendar and use of CCTVs at examination centres was a redeeming feature, he said.
It may be noted that TGPSC was recently designated as the coordinator for legal issues concerning all Public Service Commissions (PSCs).
Venkatesham told Deccan Chronicle that the commission will provide subject experts for various topics on all kinds of legal issues and assist all PSCs.
The TGPSC will act as a repository as it maintains a good database of all such issues. In consultation with NALSAR, it will assist PSCs across their legal issues.
Hyderabad will host the next national conference of chairpersons of the state PSCs in December this year.
Venkatesham said that the TGPSC, along with UPSC, will organise the second national conference at ASCI here on January 23. This will revolve around discussions on improving interview techniques, given the way some coaching institutes are preparing students.
The conference will figure out ways and means to check the menace and the monopoly of some institutes , Venkatesham said.
Venkatesham said that the TGPSC is taking all the measures to enable faith in the commission and give confidence to job seekers in the state.
