Miffed BJP ST Leader Offers To Quit Party

Bengaluru: A miffed former minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader B. Sreeramulu reportedly offered to exit from the party after he was targeted for the defeat of party nominee Bangaru Lakshman in Sandur by-poll of Ballari district. A displeased Sreeramulu staged a walkout from the core committee meeting on Tuesday evening before State BJP Chief B.Y. Vijayendra and MLC C.T. Ravi calmed him. Sandur Assembly seat is reserved for members of Scheduled Tribes and Sreeramulu belongs to ST community exercising his clout in Karnataka. In the by-poll, Congress nominee Annapoorna defeated Bangaru Lakshman last October. At the core committee meeting in Bengaluru, BJP general secretary and Karnataka incharge Radhamohan Aggarawal reportedly questioned Sreeramulu over defeat of party nominees in Sandur and Shiggaon in Haveri. Prior to Aggarwal questioning Sreeramulu, Bangaru Lakshman reportedly complained to Radhamohan Aggarawal accusing Sreeramulu of not putting enough efforts to strive for the success in the Sandur by-poll. Reacting to the accusations against him, Sreeramaulau told Aggarawal that Sandur campaigning was handled by BJP MLA and former minister Gali Janardhan Reddy while Vijayendra issued Bangaru Lakshman the party ticket to contest Sandur by-poll. “In what way am I connected with the defeat of the party nominee in Sandur?” Sreeramulu is said to have replied to a volley of queries to Aggarwal before staging a walkout. “If the party does not have confidence in me then I’m ready to quit the party.” Sreeramulu is said to have informed Aggarwal. Sreeramulu reportedly told Aggarwal that Gali Janardhan Reddy, his close associate, has been ignoring him in party affairs in Ballari district. Coming out of the meeting, Sreeramulu left the venue without a chat with media persons.
