Eluru District Secures PM Award for Excellence in Public Administration
Kakinada: Eluru district has won the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration for 2023. This award, instituted by the Government of India, recognises and rewards extraordinary and innovative initiatives by districts of the central and state governments. It acknowledges the performance of district collectors in implementing priority programmes, driving innovations, and fostering development in aspirational districts. The Central government evaluated the district’s integrated development in 2021, and Eluru was selected for its exemplary achievements. Following its designation as a new district, the then District Collector, V. Prasanna Venkatesh, served for two years and focused on delivering citizen services and implementing government schemes. As part of sustainable development, he introduced the “Akshaja” scheme, which prioritised the health of pregnant and lactating women, addressing issues like haemoglobin deficiency. This initiative was instrumental in advancing good governance in the district. Eluru is among the 16 districts across the country to receive this prestigious award.
