Guwahati, Jan 15: The Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Rammohan Naidu, along with Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, inaugurated Alliance Air flights on three key routes, including two new connections. The expanded network now links Imphal with Kolkata, Guwahati, and Dimapur, enhancing regional air connectivity.
The initiative, part of a collaboration between the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Government of Manipur, is supported by Viability Gap Funding (VGF) from the state.
During the ceremony, Rammohan Naidu emphasized the Central Government’s commitment to equitable development in the North East under the motto “Act East, Act Fast, Act First.” He highlighted the significant role of the new flights in fostering trade, travel, and tourism (3Ts) in Manipur, which, in turn, will drive economic growth, employment, and empowerment (3Es).
He credited the region’s progress to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on inclusive growth, particularly through the UDAN scheme. He also unveiled plans for airport development under the Master Plan 2047, which includes a major upgrade for Imphal Airport.
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh expressed gratitude to the Union Government and Alliance Air for enhancing travel convenience with flexible flight schedules. He assured full state support for future air connectivity projects.
Under the UDAN scheme, 10 airports and 2 heliports have been operationalized in the North East, along with 90 RCS routes, including 12 helicopter routes, ensuring better connectivity for the region.
The flag-off ceremony at Imphal Airport was attended by State Transport Minister Khashim Vashum, officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, and senior representatives from Alliance Air and AIESL. Rammohan Naidu joined the event virtually.
