Manipur CM N Biren Singh calls for unity among indigenous communities

Imphal, Dec 14: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh emphasized the importance of unity among the state’s indigenous communities, highlighting their centuries-long coexistence.

At the Manipur Indigenous People’s Cultural Exchange Festival, held under the theme “Manipur United by Diversity” at Chadong village in Kamjong district, Singh described the event as a pivotal step toward restoring peace and normalcy in the state.

“Manipur belongs to its indigenous people, and our forefathers defended this land for more than 2,000 years. The government is committed to safeguarding their heritage,” Singh said, reaffirming his administration’s dedication to protecting local communities’ rights and cultural legacy.

The chief minister also urged citizens to examine population and demographic records to counter divisive narratives threatening the state’s harmony. As part of efforts to address social challenges, Singh reported the destruction of 100 acres of poppy plantations with active support from Manipur Police, Assam Rifles, and civil society groups.

Singh took a sharp stance against the opposition Congress party, accusing it of fostering divisions within the state. “Congress wants to divide the state,” he remarked, signalling his resolve to maintain unity and social cohesion among Manipur’s indigenous communities.
