42 pc of Rs.1866.9 Cr lost by gullible people in cybercrimes was from Cyberabad

In its annual report, Telangana Cyber Security Bureau said a whopping Rs.1866.9 crore was lost in 1,14,174 cases in Telangana in 2024 as against Rs.778.7 crore in 91,652 cases in 2023. In Cyberabad, as much as Rs.793 crore was lost in 372 cases in 2024 as on November 30, as against Rs.269 crore in 182 cases in 2023 in the cybercrime cases. The Rs.793 crore lost in Cyberabad is 42 per cent of the total amount lost in cybercrimes in the State. The Cyberabad police refunded Rs.49.64 crore. Part-time job frauds topped the list of cybercrimes with over 3,267 cases followed by trading fraud with 1,686 cases and smishing fraud with 1,276 cases. Digital arrest frauds also registered a significant rise in Cyberabad with over 1,002 cases in 2024 compared to 102 cases in 2023. Of the total Rs.80.57 crore lost in 1,002 cases in digital arrest frauds, the police refunded Rs.5.70 crore. In some of their significant achievements, the cybercrimes sleuths refunded Rs.96 lakh to a victim who lost Rs.1.33 crore. The Cyberabad police arrested a person from Ernakulam in Kerala for involving in digital arrest fraud and refunded Rs.61.76 lakh and seized incriminating material from the possession of the arrested person.
