1,320 tonnes of PDS rice identified in Stella Ship: Kakinada Collector
Kakinada: A total of 1320 tons of PDS rice has been identified in Stella Ship in Kakinada port. Kakinada District Collector Shan Mohan held a media conference on Tuesday to reveal details about the illegal smuggling of ration rice at Kakinada Port. "After Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan inspected the Stella ship on November 29, a team of officials from five departments was formed to inspect the ship. They examined five compartments of the ship for 12 hours and collected 12 samples. The ship was carrying about 4,000 tonnes of rice, of which 1,320 tonnes were confirmed to be PDS rice. The investigation revealed that Satyam Balaji Rice Industries was exporting rice through this ship. An inquiry is underway to trace the origin of the rice and where it was stored. We will immediately unload and seize the 1,320 tonnes of rice from the ship. Additionally, there are still 12,000 tonnes of rice to be loaded at Kakinada port. Loading will only be allowed after confirming that no PDS rice is present. We have also set up additional check posts at Kakinada Anchorage Port and Deep Sea Water Port to monitor this issue," He stated.
