Visakhapatnam: New children's ward opens at govt eye hospital

Visakhapatnam: A new children's ward, complete with an outpatient centre, examination room, and six-bed facility, was inaugurated on Wednesday at the Surya Prasad Rao Government Regional Eye Hospital. This development follows directives from the Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR). Gondu Sitaram, APSCPCR member, led the inauguration ceremony alongside Hospital Superintendent Dr. Meenakshi, Dr. Jyotirmayi, and Hospital RMO Naveen Kumar. The officials, joined by children, conducted ribbon-cutting ceremonies at three locations within the facility. During the event, Sitaram highlighted that under the leadership of APSCPCR Chairperson Kesali Apparao, the commission is working towards establishing specialised paediatric facilities in all district hospitals. This initiative follows a review meeting held last month between the commission and senior hospital officials. “These new facilities will serve children from North Andhra and neighbouring Odisha. We are committed to ensuring these specialised services uphold children’s rights and provide optimal care,” said Dr. Meenakshi, Hospital Superintendent. The inauguration was attended by Hospital PMO Uma Srinivas, Child Development Project Officer Ramana Kumari, District Child Welfare Department representatives, Child Rights Awareness Forum members K. Yallayya and M. Harish Kumar, along with hospital staff and doctors.
