Guwahati, Jan 2: On the occasion of the New Year 2025, University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque has announced free education for all the children and youth from the surrounding villages.
He made the announcement on Wednesday morning as hundreds of locals, including children, youth, women, and elderly from neighbouring villages, visited the university campus to bless the institution at the dawn of the New Year 2025.
Additionally, he assured entrepreneurial support to families in the area, re-emphasizing the institution’s mission to foster holistic growth and development.
He also underscored the importance of education and urged parents to ensure their children receive proper schooling. He invited the local community to take advantage of the higher educational and economic opportunities offered by USTM.
The occasion was marked by a vibrant procession, traditional music, and dance, fostering a spirit of community and togetherness.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. G.D. Sharma, while addressing the gathering, lauded the community’s involvement and stressed the vital role of collaboration between the university and its neighbours in achieving shared goals of progress and prosperity. He reiterated USTM’s dedication to driving educational and socio-economic transformation in the region.
The celebration was also attended by students, and other members of the university. The festivities culminated in a prayer gathering at the Central Auditorium’s front yard, where attendees collectively prayed invoking blessings for the continued success and advancement of the university.
