Sub-adult tiger crosses Penganga, enters Adilabad forest

ADILABAD: A sub-adult tiger, believed to be around two years old, crossed the Penganga River four days ago and entered the forests of Bheempur mandal in Adilabad district from the neighbouring Thippeshwar Tiger Reserve. Forest officials have confirmed the tiger's movement and are closely monitoring its activity in the area.

The tiger is suspected to be a male and one of three cubs that accompanied their mother to the same region from Thippeshwar Tiger Reserve in February 2023. Officials explained that male tigers generally separate from their families around this age to establish their own territory, a behaviour likely driving this tiger's journey.

Local residents reported spotting the tiger crossing the road between the villages of Tamsi(k) and Hathighat in Bheempur mandal. A truck driver captured the moment on video, which quickly went viral. Forest department personnel, conducting routine base camps in the area, have since verified the tiger's presence.

To ensure the safety of both the tiger and local communities, forest officials are raising awareness and urging residents not to harm the animal. The tiger is reportedly resting in a location with dense bushes and a water source near the Penganga River. No cattle kills have been reported so far, indicating the tiger is likely feeding on wild boars in the region.

The area, bordering Thippeshwar Tiger Reserve, is known for frequent tiger sightings as the animals often cross the river into Adilabad forests. Field-level staff and animal trackers have been instructed not to disclose detailed information about the tiger's movements to prevent potential threats from poachers.
