Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition Leader V.D. Satheeshan criticized the Kerala budget, stating that the LDF government has failed to provide relief to the state's residents.
During a press conference at the assembly complex, Satheeshan stated that the finance minister has not adequately addressed the state's increasing debt, which has surpassed Rs 1.25 lakh crore.
The opposition leader stated that he had heard budgets for the last 24 years, and this was the first time a finance minister repeated what had been previously stated. The department reports were not compiled properly.
Satheeshan criticized the 50% increase in land tax, calling it an added burden on ordinary citizens.
He claimed that the government had cut planned expenditures for essential programs, including minority scholarships and welfare initiatives for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
The opposition leader also highlighted the inefficiency in the implementation of key projects, noting that only 24% of the Rs 500 crore allocated for the LIFE Mission in the previous fiscal year had been utilized.
