Thiruvanthapuram: A court in Kerala has issued non-bailable warrants against Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balakrishna due to their failure to appear in a criminal case regarding allegedly misleading medical advertisements.

The Judicial First Class Magistrate II court in Palakkad had initially issued bailable warrants requiring their presence on February 1. However, since they did not appear in court, non-bailable warrants were issued on Saturday to ensure they appeared on February 15.

The case was filed by the Kerala Drugs Inspector against Divya Pharmacy, an affiliate of Patanjali Ayurved, under the provisions of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act of 1954. The complaint cites violations of Section 3, which prohibits the advertisement of certain drugs for the treatment of specific diseases.

Additionally, Section 3(b) bans advertisements that claim to enhance sexual pleasure, while Section 3(d) prohibits ads that assert they can diagnose, cure, or prevent diseases listed under the Act.

Divya Pharmacy is the first accused, Acharya Balakrishna is the second, and Baba Ramdev is the third.
