Telangana Prisons DG Inspects Nizamabad Jail
Hyderabad: The convicts of Nizamabad central jail will produce clothes, towels, napkins and bedsheets, among other commodities from the new weaving unit to sell them to the people and distribute to all jails in Warangal.
This unit will help in reformation and rehabilitation of prisoners by providing necessary skills and wages. The unit will employ 26 inmates with 13 weaving machines. Instructions to this effect were issued by Dr. Soumya Mishra, Director-General of Prisons and Correctional Services after visiting Nizamabad central prison and Kamareddy sub-jail.
She also interacted with prisoners and enquired about the facilities being provided to them.
The weaving unit of Warangal central prison was shut down when it was demolished and the machines were shifted to Cherlapalli central prison. In 2021, the Nizamabad jail was upgraded as a central prison operating steel industry, printing press, tailoring and phenyl making units. After taking the charge as Director-General of Prisons and Correctional Services, Soumya Mishra recommended the establishment of the weaving unit at Nizamabad central prison transferring machines from Cherlapalli to Nizamabad.
