Nellore police use drones for surveillance, leading to arrests for gambling, drug possession, and public drinking in crime-prone areas.
Tirupati: The Nellore district police have deployed drones for surveillance in the city and outskirts to curb antisocial activities and enhance public safety. Acting under the directives of district superintendent of police (SP) G. Krishna Kanth, the initiative targets crime-prone areas, abandoned places, and other vulnerable spots.
As part of the operation led by DSP P. Sindhu Priya, police registered 48 cases against individuals consuming alcohol in public, arrested 12 people from gambling dens, and apprehended two in possession of ganja.
SP Krishna Kanth stated that drone surveillance will help prevent crimes such as gambling, drug use, chain-snatching, and theft, particularly in crowded areas. He warned of strict action against those involved in criminal activities, especially in identified hotspots like abandoned bungalows, orchards, and riverbanks.
"The Nellore police are committed to leveraging technology for crime prevention," he added.
