APPCB and Sri City collaborate to promote 3Rs for sustainability

Tirupati: The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) and Sri City jointly organised a seminar on “Reduce, Reuse & Recycle (3Rs) - Circular Economy” on Friday, focusing on sustainable waste management and resource efficiency. Discussions centred on reducing industrial waste, preventing harmful disposal practices, and fostering a sustainable industrial ecosystem. Welcoming participants, Dr. Ravindra Sannareddy, Founder and Managing Director of Sri City, highlighted Sri City’s recycling initiatives aimed at minimising waste and optimising resource usage. He stressed the importance of responsible disposal practices to protect forests and water bodies. APPCB Chairman Dr. P. Krishnaiah praised Sri City’s adoption of sustainable practices, such as recycling treated wastewater and using renewable energy. He emphasised stricter adherence to waste disposal norms, especially given Sri City’s location in the ecologically sensitive Pulicat Lake catchment area. C. Selvam, Conservator of Forests, Tirupati Circle, urged industries to comply with environmental rules, avoid dumping in sensitive areas, and adopt afforestation, renewable energy, and community waste management. Dr. Sudhakar G. Reddy from the University of Michigan, USA, in a virtual session, shared global strategies for waste reduction and resource efficiency, urging industries to embrace 3R principles. Over 100 HR and EHS managers from Sri City participated, contributing to discussions on achieving a circular economy.
