Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand leads meeting on Pradhan Mantri Suryagarh and PM-Kusum schemes for solar power promotion
Vijayawada: Chief secretary K. Vijayanand chaired the first state-level coordination committee meeting on Wednesday at the state secretariat to discuss the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Suryagarh and PM-Kusum schemes. He urged officials to raise public awareness about these initiatives, which aim to promote solar power and reduce electricity bills through rooftop solar installations.
Under the schemes, Discoms will install solar rooftops, with the goal of solarising 100 per cert of Nadimuru village in Chittoor and Naravaripalle village in Tirupati as model solar villages. Additionally, five villages in each district will be developed as model solar villages under a pilot project.
The CS emphasised installing solar panels on government buildings, schools, and colleges and outlined efforts to promote solar power in agriculture through the PM-Kusum scheme, with plans for three lakh solar pump sets. A state-level coordination committee, chaired by the CS, will monitor progress quarterly.
Senior officials, including APGenco MD K.V.N. Chakradhar Babu and NEDCAP MD Kamalakar Babu, participated in the meeting, alongside other departmental heads
