Two held in CMR college voyeurism case; Ex-Minister Malla Reddy’s brother named in FIR

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police on Sunday arrested two kitchen staff of CMR Girls Hostel in Kandlakoya in connection with a voyeurism case that took place on the college premises a few days ago resulting in massive protests by students. The arrested Nanda Kishore Kumar, 20 and Govind Kumar, 20, both natives of Bihar, were working as kitchen staff members. The police also named the former Minister Ch Malla Reddy’s brother Chamakura Gopal Reddy of Bowenpally as A7 in the FIR. Gopal Reddy, who is a resident of Bowenpally, is the college chairman. Apart from Gopal Reddy, College Director Madireddy Janga Reddy of Srinivasa Nagar, Principal Varahabatla Anantha Narayana of Krishnanagar Colony in Moulali and two hostel wardens – KV Dhanalaxmi and Allam Preethi Reddy, both residents of Kandlakoya, were also named in the FIR, said Medchal Assistant Commissioner of Police, B Srinivas Reddy. He confirmed that separate notices were sent to the five members in connection with the case. Srinivas Reddy clarified that the former Minister Malla Reddy was not connected to the college as the entire premises belonged to Gopal Reddy only. Based on a complaint of college students, the Medchal police registered a case under Sections 77 and 125 of BNS and investigated the case. During the course of investigation, the police nabbed Nanda Kishore and Govind Kumar. “It is clearly established that Nanda Kishore and Govind Kumar, who are A1 and A2, respectively, resorted to voyeurism and targeted the hostel girls, while using their washrooms,” N. Koti Reddy, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Medchal Zone, said in a statement. Dhanalaxmi and Allam Preethi Reddy, who are A3 and A4, respectively, were working as CMR girls’ hostel wardens, displaying negligence when victim girls informed about the incident. The duo did not give priority to such a serious incident and intentionally avoided escalating the matter to the police or to parents of the victims. They even tried to suppress the issue and blamed the victims by derogatory comments and thereby insulted the modesty of victim students. Anantha Narayana (A6), Madireddy Janga Reddy (A7), and Gopal Reddy mounted pressure on Dhanalaxmi and Preethi Reddy to prevent disclosing the incident so as to protect college reputation, but did not show interest in reporting the incident to competent authority at any point of time, which has emboldened and abetted the accused to take chance of voyeurism. They provided accommodation to Nanda Kishore and Govind Kumar near the girls’ hostel washrooms giving easy access, and serious threat to the privacy and safety of the girls. The abnormal behaviour of two wardens along with Anantha Narayana, Janga Reddy and Gopal Reddy abetted Nanda Kishore and Govind Kumar to resort to voyeurism.
