Red Sanders smuggling attempt foiled in Seshachalam forests
Tirupati: Officials from the State Forest Department, TTD Vigilance and Security wing apprehended an accused involved in smuggling red sanders from the Seshachalam forests in Tirumala. Acting on a tip off, the team intercepted them near Silathoranam in Tirumala late on Thursday. On Thursday evening, the TTD Vigilance and Security wing received a tip-off about red sanders being transported in a car. Setting up vehicle inspections near the Silathoranam area, the alerted officials flagged down a suspicious vehicle. During the search, they discovered around 20 high-quality Grade-A red sanders logs concealed behind the rear seat. While the inspection was underway, the car driver attempted to escape but was caught by the officials. The forest department confirmed that the red sanders logs were seized, and the vehicle was taken into custody. Investigations are ongoing to trace the network behind this smuggling attempt, officials said.
