Ranga Reddy court sentences teenager to rigorous life term for assaulting constables

Hyderabad: The IX additional district and sessions judge, Harisha, at Ranga Reddy district court complex has convicted Sardar Chamkorthi alias Karan Singh sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for life along with a fine of Rs.15,000 in police assault case that took place in Jagadgirigutta police station in 2023.

Nineteen-year-old Karan Singh was a resident of Rajendernagar. According to police, a complaint was received from a police constable regarding an incident that occurred while apprehending Karan Singh, who was involved in a murder case under Narsingi police station.

At approximately 1.30 pm to 2 pm, while searching in Sikh Colony at Yellammabanda, the police personnel traced Karan Singh. Singh attacked constables Raju Naik and Vijay with a knife, causing severe bleeding injuries.

After shifting the injured constables to a nearby hospital, the police took Karan Singh into custody. The police booked a case against him under Sections 307 and 333 Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 25(1B)(b) of Arms Act-1959 at Jagadgirigutta police station.

Following the investigation, the police arrested Karan Singh on January 5, 2023 and produced him before the court. A charge-sheet was filed and during the trial, the court examined multiple witnesses and after a thorough evaluation of the evidence, it found the accused guilty. The court sentenced Karan Singh to rigorous life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs.15,000.
