Rachakonda police nabs armyman for killing wife and making bones into powder

Hyderabad: The Rachakonda police on Tuesday arrested the retired army man, Putta Guru Murthy (36) for killing his wife Venkata Madhavi and making her bones into powder and disposing it in the washroom of their house at New Venkateshwara Colony in Jillelaguda. Rachakonda police detected the case based on technical evidence and specific information and arrested Murthy. On January 16, 2025, at around 8 am, Murthy woke up and started an argument with his wife He became furious and slapped her before hitting her to the wall and strangling her after which she collapsed. Realizing that Madhavi died, he decided to dispose of the body and misled her parents and relatives that she left the house without informing anyone. Using a knife brought from the kitchen, he cut her shoulders and severed both legs. He then cut her arms and legs into smaller parts and placed them in a bucket. After boiling body parts in hot water, he burnt them on a single burner gas stove and crushed the bones with a stone roller into powder. The bone powder and small pieces of flesh were disposed of in the toilet, flushed with water several times, while remaining small bones were kept in the household trash bin, intending to dispose of them later. To minimize foul smell while burning, he kept doors and kitchen windows open. He started his task from 10 am and ended it around 6 pm to cut into pieces and dispose of the body. He later cleaned the bathroom using detergent and phenyl to remove any traces of evidence. Murthy murdered his wife inhumanly, the police said. The gruesome murder came to light when Madhavi’s mother lodged a missing complaint. The police examined the footage of CCTV cameras at the house and found that Murthy and Madhavi went inside their house on January 15.Later, there was no evidence of Madhavi going outside as seen in the CCTV footage, clearly indicating that Murthy might have murdered his wife inside the house, the police said.
