MRPS to Press for Categorisation of SCs in Hyd on Feb. 7
Adilabad: MRPS founder president Manda Krishna Madiga announced that the organisation will host a ‘Veyi Gonthulu…Laksha Dappulu’ event on February 7 in Hyderabad to urge the state government to implement the Supreme Court’s verdict on SC categorisation. He emphasised that the move would secure a brighter future for Dalit children belonging to sub-castes other than Malas. Speaking after a preparatory meeting in Adilabad, Madiga alleged that while Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had previously supported SC categorization — drawing on Madiga community backing throughout his political career — Mala leaders within the Congress prevented him from acting on this commitment in the Assembly, even after the Supreme Court’s judgment. Madiga called on Madigas to “fight tooth and nail” to realise the SC’s decision, criticising the government for recruiting 11,000 teachers without applying the categorisation, which he said adversely affected educated, unemployed Madiga youth. He appealed to wealthier Madiga families to provide ‘Dappus’ — symbolic cultural and occupational drums — to those unable to afford them, urging every attendee to bring one to the Hyderabad meeting. He claimed that all SC sub-castes, along with BC, ST, minority, and upper-caste communities, support the demand for SC categorisation, except for the Malas. Madiga insisted that their push aligns with the principles of social justice and will benefit the majority of SC communities. Excise cops arrests two, seize 82 kg of ganja Kothagudem: Bhadrachalam excise police on Friday arrested two ganja peddlers at the RTO check post on Kunavaram Road and seized 82 kg of ganja. The accused were identified as Baroddin and Abdul Nizad. Excise enforcement CI S. Ramesh said that the duo was transporting the contraband from Malkangiri in Odisha to Kerala in a car. During a routine vehicle check, the excise police discovered packets of ganja hidden in the vehicle. The seized ganja is valued at approximately Rs 1 crore in the market.
