Minister Tummala for ban on plastic in parks
Khammam: Agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao on Friday proposed a ban on plastic items in urban parks. During an inspection of the Velugumatla urban park in Khammam with district collector Muzammil Khan, the minister emphasised the need to protect these parks from pollution, especially from plastic. He directed officials to prohibit the entry and use of plastic items in the park. Rao also urged officials to develop the Velugumatla park into a tourist destination by monsoon and suggested introducing millet-based food items in the park's canteen. The state government plans to establish similar urban parks in Kothagudem and Sathupalli, to set an example for future generations on balancing environmental protection with development, Rao said. District forest officer Sidharth Vikram Singh revealed that Velugumatla urban park spans 500 acres and is just a 10-minute drive from Khammam city. Upcoming attractions include boating, cycling facilities, and a deer park.
