After training at Visakha Welding Institute, they were approached by agents Durga Rao (alias Prasad) and Chandu in October 2024. The agents arranged interviews through Manikantha Welding Institute in Auto Nagar. Following interviews and medical tests, they travelled to Sharjah on November 12, 2024, only to discover the promised jobs were non-existent. The stranded youth sought help from Visakhapatnam city police commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi, who coordinated with immigration officials to secure their return. The victims revealed that the organisation offered them low-paying helper roles instead of welding jobs and refused to refund their money, leaving them stranded. Bagchi stated that steps are being taken to scrutinise overseas employment agencies and advised job seekers to use authorised agencies. He added that a study will examine how unemployment in North Andhra is exploited by fraudulent recruiters, with findings to be shared with the government.
