CM Revanth Orders Report on Polavaram Impact in Telangana
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed the Irrigation wing to prepare a detailed report with the assistance of IIT Hyderabad on the potential impact of the Polavaram project in Telangana. The officials have been tasked with completing the report within a month, with a Special Officer to be appointed to coordinate with the IIT team. In addition, the CM ordered a thorough study on the potential threat the Polavaram project poses to the Bhadrachalam temple, a major religious site. Officials briefed the CM that the temple town was submerged during the 2022 floods, which saw 27 lakh cusecs of water. Irrigation officials also raised concerns regarding the Godavari Banakacharla project being undertaken by the Andhra Pradesh government, which was presented using floodwaters without proper authorization. The CM instructed Telangana officials to submit formal objections to the AP government's Chief Secretary regarding the project. Furthermore, Reddy has asked the Irrigation department to write letters to the Godavari River Management Board and, if necessary, the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti, to safeguard the interests of Telangana.
