SHILLONG, Dec 24: Opposition Congress chief Vincent H Pala has claimed that the state president of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) and Nongthymmai legislator Charles Pyngrope is on his way to come back to the Congress.
“Charles Pyngrope is very clear on his mind. His people have gone ahead of him joining the Congress. So he is on the way (to come back) to Congress,” Pala said.
On Pyngrope’s statement that the Congress in Meghalaya is not a sinking ship, it just needs a good captain, the Congress chief said, “This is a fact. I told him (Charles) I am nominated not elected. Elected has a time of 3 or 5 years but the nominated can continue if they perform but I am not purchased and they have not been able to try to take me here and there. I stick with the party. So the party will see whether I will be elected or nominated but at least they see that I am loyal to the party and that I have my ethics not like others who shifted sides frequently.”
Pyngrope has been left alone in his Nongthymmai Assembly constituency as his leaders have all gone back to the Indian National Congress.
“They all left me, what can I do, I couldn’t stop them,” was the reaction of the former Assembly Speaker when asked about the recent political development in his constituency during a recent media interaction on December 3.
On the speculation that he may join back the Congress, Pyngrope had said, “At the moment, I have not given that a thought because I am still the president of the TMC.”
He added, “At the moment I am alone. Last samurai standing.”
