Brandix Factory Workers in Visakhapatnam Protest Over Work Hours, Wages
Visakhapatnam: Hundreds of women workers on Thursday staged protests in front of the Brandix factory in Achutapuram in Anakapalle district following the management pressure on them to work an extra half an hour. Claiming that their wages have not increased in the last 10 years, all female workers of the factory in the Atchutapuram SEZ participated in the demonstration. The workers held a sit-in at the main gate, alleging increased harassment by company officials. They said they have to leave homes at 3 am and work until 10:30 pm. The employees accused the company of not raising their wages and keeping them away from their families by requiring them to work even on Sundays. Under the auspices of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), the workers raised slogans against the Brandix factory, demanding fair treatment and better working conditions.
