The Milwaukee Bucks made an important move on Wednesday morning, sending Khris Middleton to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Kyle Kuzma.
Kuzma is having a rough season right now, so why did the Bucks decide they want him?
Writing for The Athletic, David Aldridge dug into the details of the trade and found that it’s all about Kuzma’s speed.
“The 6-9 Kuzma goes to a Bucks team with an established pecking order, with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard in the key roles. A league source told The Athletic that the Bucks did extensive research on Kuzma in recent days, and team officials believe Kuzma can help them play fast on offense and be more effective in transition,” Aldridge wrote, per NBACentral.

Kuzma is averaging 15.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game in the 2024-25 season, shooting 42.0 percent from the field and 28.1 percent from the three-point line.
His field goal and three-point percentages have never been lower, but the Bucks still want him.
That’s because they think he can eventually bounce back from these career lows and become productive again, and they also love how quickly he moves.
They want an uptempo team, one that cruises up and down the court, especially in transition.
The Bucks weren’t getting that from Middleton, so a swap for Kuzma makes sense to them.
Is this the last change the Bucks will make before Thursday’s deadline?
Some fans feel that Kuzma isn’t enough to really move the needle and Milwaukee will need to be more aggressive and acquire someone else.
But this might be it until the offseason, despite what fans hope.
