Naz Reid’s impact on the Minnesota Timberwolves this season cannot be overstated.
The versatile big man has consistently delivered when called upon, yet he’s still coming off the bench—though that situation might soon change.
With Reid holding a $15 million player option for the 2025-26 season, NBA insiders are increasingly convinced he’ll test the free agency waters instead.
This potential decision puts Minnesota in a precarious position as they face the prospect of losing one of their most dependable frontcourt players.
Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer recently intensified the speculation, stating that Reid was widely expected to opt out of his contract this summer and test free agency.
“Reid, who is the league’s reigning Sixth Man of the Year for a few more months, possesses a $15 million player option for 2025-26 that many of those same strategists expect he’ll decline in search of a richer arrangement in the summer,” Fischer said.

Reid’s contract situation has become a focal point for Timberwolves’ fans.
When he inked his three-year extension with Minnesota back in June 2023, several teams—including the Cleveland Cavaliers, Dallas Mavericks, and San Antonio Spurs—reportedly showed interest in acquiring his services.
Now, the pressing question is whether Reid can secure a more lucrative deal elsewhere or if staying with the Timberwolves makes the most sense.
While it remains uncertain if any rival organization will exceed his $15 million option, many believe Reid and Minnesota will eventually reach an agreement on fresh terms.
The Brooklyn Nets have emerged as a leading contender for Reid’s services, boasting the most available cap space in the league heading into the offseason.
They can offer him something many teams can’t: a starting role alongside Nic Claxton.
However, if championship contention tops Reid’s priority list, Brooklyn might not be his ideal landing spot.
