Thiago Motta Previews Juventus vs Como: Tactical Insights and Squad Updates

Juventus manager Thiago Motta addressed the media ahead of Friday’s Serie A clash against Como, offering insights into team selection, recent transfers, and the challenges ahead.

Motta emphasized the difficulty of the upcoming match, stating, “The game is complicated. As always, maximum concentration will be required. We’re facing an ambitious team with an ambitious coach, and they’ve had a great transfer market.”

Regarding the possibility of pairing Dusan Vlahovic and Randal Kolo Muani in attack, Motta was cautious: “It’s not that simple. We are a team, and the most important thing is that we need a collective balance. They are two very high-level players who participated together in the last match. When the time comes that I deem it useful for them to play together, they will play. Until then, either one or the other will play, and maybe someone won’t play at all, it depends.”

The coach addressed the exclusion of Alberto Costa from the Champions League list, explaining, “I spoke with him and explained the situation. It’s clear he wanted to participate in the Champions League too, but it wasn’t possible. However, I told him I really like what he’s doing in training. He arrived hungry and is doing very well. I’m sure when his opportunity comes, he will be ready to take it.”

On recent transfers, Motta expressed satisfaction: “I’m happy and proud of all my players, both those who were here before and those who have arrived. We have our objectives, we have our values, and through this, we will reach our goal.”

Motta also commented on Andrea Cambiaso’s decision to stay at Juventus: “We’re happy, and I’m happy for him that he stayed with a great team like Juventus. I think he always had this idea.”

Regarding injuries, Motta confirmed, “Cambiaso won’t be there, Bremer won’t be there, Cabal won’t be there, and Kalulu won’t be there.”

The coach praised Vlahovic’s attitude: “I’m very pleased with him and the others. I take for granted that his attitude should be an example. It’s fundamental for working in a group. His attitude has been impeccable. Sometimes he played in less than optimal conditions because it was necessary. He’s a guy who always trains well. He accepts decisions because he knows it’s for the good of the team.”

Motta also discussed the team’s attacking philosophy: “Our way of attacking is always to want to attack laterally with teams that close inside. Internally, we have midfielders who must find spaces between opponents to make them collapse more in a very dangerous area and have at least 3 men inside the area. Randal and Dusan must do a great job of linking up. When there’s no pressure, it’s also essential to attack the depth to stretch and finally, they must attack the area to score. But then there’s also the defensive phase because they must be our first defenders.”

In conclusion, Motta emphasized the collective nature of the team’s journey: “I’ve always said that this is not my Juventus, but our Juventus, a team that has changed a lot and is on a path. At this moment, we have the objective of improving the team, and of course, we would like to have results and continuity.”
