Atalanta’s medical team have been working overtime as two of their key players, Giorgio Scalvini and Gianluca Scamacca, face significant injury setbacks. The club’s injury crisis has deepened, with both players potentially sidelined for the remainder of the season.
La Gazzetta dello Sport report how defender Giorgio Scalvini has already undergone a successful surgery to stabilize his left shoulder. The procedure, known as a modified Latarjet technique, was performed by Professor Alessandro Castagna and his team at the Humanitas clinic in Rozzano, near Milan. Scalvini has already begun his rehabilitation process, with the aim of being fully fit for the start of next season.
Meanwhile, striker Gianluca Scamacca is in Barcelona for a crucial consultation with renowned surgeon Professor Ramon Cugat. Scamacca suffered a right rectus femoris muscle injury, and the visit will determine whether immediate surgery is necessary. If the consultation yields a favorable opinion, Scamacca could undergo the procedure as soon as today, allowing him to start his rehabilitation process without delay. Like Scalvini, Scamacca’s focus will be on preparing for the upcoming season.
These injuries have dealt a significant blow to Atalanta’s squad depth. The team, still reeling from their recent Coppa Italia elimination, returned to training at their Zingonia facility yesterday. Players who had limited or no involvement in the match against Bologna participated in a full afternoon session, while those who played more extensively underwent a recovery session.
Other injured players, including Ademola Lookman, Sead Kolasinac, Marco Carnesecchi, and Odilon Kossounou, spent the day receiving treatment. The team is scheduled for another afternoon training session today as they look to regroup and push forward despite these setbacks.
On the transfer front, there are whispers of potential movement. Mexican club Leon, home to James Rodriguez, has reportedly shown interest in Juan Cuadrado. However, Atalanta maintain that no negotiations are currently underway.
