The NBA trade deadline is quickly approaching, which means it’s time for the annual rumors about the Phoenix Suns.
It feels like the Suns are always talked about as a team that could be making big changes before the deadline, and that’s definitely true this year as they sit as the 11th seed in the West.
According to Gerald Bourguet and Evan Sidery, the Suns have been “making calls trying to offload Jusuf Nurkic’s contact for an upgrade.”
However, Sidery noted that there has been “little interest” from competing teams to take on Nurkic.
Still, he said, “It would be very surprising if Nurkic isn’t moved by the trade deadline.”
The Suns have indeed been making calls trying to offload Jusuf Nurkic’s contract for an upgrade, just little interest. It would be very surprising if Nurkic isn’t moved by the trade deadline. Carry on. https://t.co/E2ETaH95wx

This is Nurkic’s second season with the Suns and it hasn’t been as robust as 2023-24.
He is averaging 8.8 points and 9.5 rebounds, down from 10.9 points and 11.0 rebounds last season.
There have been complaints in the fanbase about Nurkic’s output and questions about how well he fits in the current lineup.
But because of his inconsistency, other teams aren’t eager to trade for him, which leaves the Suns in a tough spot.
Of course, the deadline is still a few weeks away.
As it gets closer, other front offices will become more serious about trades and will also feel more pressure to make deals happen.
That means the Suns may ultimately get their wish to trade Nurkic even if he isn’t generating a lot of interest right now.
Who would they replace Nurkic with and would a new center help the team climb higher in the standings?
The Suns will weigh their options and do what is best so they don’t miss the playoffs after a promising start to the season.
