One could even make a case for him being criminally underrated.
That’s why, ever since The Last Dance aired, Pippen has been on a mission to get what he’s due.
In a recent interview with the PBDs Podcast, he shared one of his wildest takes yet (via Legion Hoops).

He claimed that GMs would choose him over LeBron James to start a franchise, adding that he didn’t chase individual accolades throughout the course of his career.
For starters, that second part might not entirely be true.
He went on the record stating that he became more selfish as a scorer during the Chicago Bulls’ first championship run because he knew he had to put up big numbers to get a better contract.
He was also a late bloomer, whereas LeBron James looked like an NBA-caliber player as a High School senior.
Now, talking about basketball, Pippen was better than James as a defender.
James only played good defense during a brief stretch in his career.
Pippen always took pride in defending the opposition’s best player.
He was a lockdown wing for most of his career.
Both were incredibly athletic and great dunkers, and Pippen, like LeBron, also had an elite court vision, even though James’ passing skills were better.
At the end of the day, Pippen deserves all the credit in the world.
From that to being better than LeBron, that’s for each one to decide.
