Ruben Amorim confirms Luke Shaw has suffered an injury setback as Man United boss provides Lisandro Martinez update

Ruben Amorim confirmed that Luke Shaw has suffered a setback in his recovery from injury and said Manchester United will be cautious with the England defender.

Shaw hasn’t started for United for almost a year due to a succession of muscle injuries, and has missed the last 16 games after making three substitute appearances under Amorim.

It’s understood the setback is a minor one and Shaw could be back in training next week, but United don’t want to take any risks. ‘Luke has one small issue in a different area from the last injury, so we try to be careful,’ said Amorim.

It’s hoped that Shaw can fill the gap on the left side of United’s back-three after the club confirmed on Thursday that Lisandro Martinez has suffered a cruciate ligament injury in his right knee. Martinez was carried off against Crystal Palace on Sunday and Amorim said: ‘Licha is a difficult situation. He’s going to be out for a while, we don’t know the extent of the injury, but it’s going to take time.’

Ayden Heaven, signed from Arsenal in the January transfer window for £1.5million in compensation, is another option and Amorim hinted that the teenager and left wing-back Patrick Dorgu – a £29.4m signing from Lecce – could be in the squad to face Leicester in the FA Cup at Old Trafford on Friday night.

‘We’ll see,’ he added. ‘You guys have to wait until tomorrow, but they are ready to play and are two more solutions in this moment.’
