Golden State’s new addition, proving to be seamless fit next to Steph Curry, not missing Klay Thompson
Splash Bros, meet the Splash Buddies. The Golden State Warriors are humming right now. Hield has provided a massive boost in scoring, averaging 21.9 points per game so far on the young season (Photo by Tim Warner/Getty Images) Through seven games, the Warriors are 6-1. In large part, to new member, Buddy Hield. The marksman has been on an absolute tear to begin the season, scoring 20+ points in six of their seven games. The lone game Hield did not pass the 20-point threshold, is the lone Golden State loss. Coincidence? Probably not. Hield has proven to be the perfect complimentary piece to Steph Curry and Draymond Green. He has essentially been the Klay Thompson replacement, who signed with the Dallas Mavericks over the summer. Thus breaking up the Splash Bros, but giving way to a new era in Golden State, the Splash Buddies. The early results have been great for head coach Steve Kerr and Dub Nation. Hield has dropped 20+ points in six of their seven games (Photo by Tim Warner/Getty Images) Through seven games, Hield is averaging 21.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists. He is shooting an impressive 50 per cent from three, and 51.4 per cent overall. In other words, Hield has become the new splash brother next to Curry. Before the season, Kerr had explained how they would utilize Hield, similar to how they used Thompson for over a decade. “One of the reasons we are excited to get Buddy Hield is because we will run some of the same stuff that we ran for Klay for Buddy,” Kerr told ESPN. “Draymond and Steph will be looking for him on the perimeter when they’re playing with him..” Along with Hield, the Warriors also brought in proven veterans, De’Anthony Melton and Kyle Anderson. Moves that will help bolster their defense, alongside Green. Kerr raved about both. “The other new guys, Melton, Kyle Anderson — there’s a reason we targeted them too,” Kerr said. “They fit any lineup, such smart tough players that they’re easy to play with.” The Warriors look much different than the dynasty that won four titles together in eight years. This is a new recalibrated squad, led by familiar faces in Curry and Gree, but mostly with new and fresh faces. If the early results are anything to go off of, then it’s so far, so good in Golden State.
