Who is the best defender in the NBA this season?
There are a few names tossed around when that question is asked, such as Victor Wembanyama, Anthony Davis, Rudy Gobert, Dyson Daniels, and more.
But according to Davion Mitchell of the Toronto Raptors, he is the best defender in the league.
Speaking with Josh Lewenberg, via NBACentral, Mitchell said:
“I love the (defensive) end. I feel like I’m the best defender in our league, honestly. Off ball or on the ball, I just feel like that’s who I am.”

So far this season, Mitchell’s first with the Raptors, Mitchell is averaging 6.6 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 5.0 assists.
Those may not seem like numbers from the best defensive player in the NBA, but Mitchell still believes his name should be in the conversation.
The Raptors have a few talented stars alongside Mitchell, but they are still in bad shape this season.
They are the 14th team in the East, hold a 7-18 record, and have just lost three games in a row.
During those three games, Mitchell has averaged 3.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.7 assists.
Mitchell got his start with the Sacramento Kings in 2021-22 and was celebrated for his abilities on both ends of the court.
But over time, it became clear the Kings didn’t have a big enough role for Mitchell, and he was then sent to the Raptors last summer.
Being with this team allows Mitchell more time on the court and the ability to enhance his game across the board.
Sure enough, all of his numbers have gone up since coming to Toronto.
Mitchell may not win Defensive Player of the Year this season, but he has a deep belief in himself, and that will help him throughout the rest of his career.
