Many people feel that the Boston Celtics, who are the defending NBA champs, will end up winning another Larry O’Brien Trophy this summer.

After all, they had an 18-4 record coming into Friday and continue to put forth outstanding production offensively, and even though their defense has slipped a bit, they’re still the team to beat.

Former Celtics star Paul Pierce, who helped lead them to the world title in 2008, named the team’s biggest threat while on Fox Sports 1’s “Speak,” and it wasn’t the New York Knicks or even the Cleveland Cavaliers, who have the league’s best record at 20-3.

He actually thinks Boston’s biggest threat is the Milwaukee Bucks, mainly because of superstar and two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.

“They have the main ingredient, Giannis… What I mean by that, you can’t win an NBA championship without a top-5 player, MVP candidate… As long as you got him, you always got a chance.”

The Bucks were a festering disappointment last season when they went 49-33 and lost in the first round of the playoffs, and when they started 2-8 this season, people sounded the doomsday alarm for them.

But Milwaukee recently won seven games in a row, and on Friday, they have the opportunity to make a major statement when they face the Celtics in Boston.

As always, Milwaukee is led by Antetokounmpo, who came into Friday leading the NBA in scoring and is averaging 32.6 points, 11.6 rebounds and 6.6 assists a game while shooting a career-high 61.6 percent from the field.

The difference for them lately has been the improved play of Damian Lillard, who struggled last season in his first go-around with them but has shot the ball very well over the last several days.

The Bucks are still without forward Khris Middleton, who hasn’t yet played this season, but with an 11-10 record, they’re in fifth place in the Eastern Conference, so an extended hot streak could put them into position to make a real run come playoff time.
