Napoli Having Trouble Coming to Terms with Anguissa

Napoli won’t lose Frank Anguissa for free even though his contract is about to expire, but the road to a long-term one is more tortuous than previously anticipated. The midfielder’s deal will run out on June 30th. The conditions to activate a two-year automatic extension will be met soon, La Gazzetta dello Sport relays (via Virgilio).

The veteran will be tied to the team until 2027 once that happens. However, the Azzurri would like to reward him with a brand-new pact, tacking on two or three more years and increasing his wages.

Anguissa and his camp are mulling over whether to commit to Napoli basically for the rest of his career since he’s 29. Monaco tried to lure him last summer, but their €15M offer was too low. The Cameroonian international has a few suitors abroad. He would have the chance to go to Saudi Arabia, with very rich wages, if he wished to.

The former Fulham contributor has been pocketing €2.2M annually in recent campaigns. He’s putting together a career season in the final third, having already tallied 5 goals and 3 assists. He’s currently on the mend with a calf injury. The Partenopei acquired him for €16M from the Cottagers in 2022. According to Relevo’s Mattia Moretto, the negotiation between the parties is currently stalling.
