Who is the future face of the NBA?
This is a question that’s been asked a lot lately, especially because Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves publicly said he doesn’t want to take on such a role.
Some people balked at Edwards’ opinion, but others understand why he feels that way.
LeBron James, who has been the face of the league for more than 20 years, talked about it and supports Edwards.
“Why do you wanna be the face of the league when all the people that cover and talk about our game on a day-to-day basis s– on everybody? Obviously, I didn’t ask for it. I feel Ant. I understand. This is weird energy when it comes to that,” James said, per Legion Hoops.

James doesn’t feel that being the face of the league is worth the negative attention that comes with it.
In the age of the 24-hour news cycle, the NBA’s biggest athletes hear a lot of bad reviews about just about everything they do.
Becoming the king of the league brings many fans, but it also brings detractors and critics.
For someone who wants to solely focus on playing great basketball, this can be a huge distraction.
James has handled his position well and has tried to refrain from being in many public spats with analysts, writers, and fans.
But he understands why Edwards would shy away from wearing the crown.
This leaves the league in a weird position, with no clear-cut frontrunner to be the next face of the NBA.
It was once James, but who is next if Edwards is avoiding it?
Could it be Luka Doncic, Victor Wembanyama, Jayson Tatum, or someone else?
The truth is that the NBA might be entering an era without an obvious face of the league.
