The Dallas Mavericks made one of the most controversial and talked-about moves in recent professional sports history.
Moving on from 25-year-old Luka Doncic was something no one saw coming.
It was so shocking and hard to explain that Mavs fans didn’t even seem to care about the return they got.
Not even getting a future first-ballot Hall of Famer like Anthony Davis seemed to be enough to appease their wrath.
That’s why even Mavs CEO Rick Welts admitted that he may have underestimated the backlash and reaction the team got for this decision (via Legion Hoops).

Whenever you see your fans angry that you got Anthony Davis and a first-round pick, you may have to question whether you made the right decision.
Not only did they trade their young star just months after he led the team to the NBA Finals, but the team also didn’t even auction him or try to get the best trade package for him.
As good a player as Davis is, chances are the team could’ve gotten much more in the open market if they had gone public about their decision to move the Slovenian superstar.
More than that, all the leaks and reports make it seem as if the Mavs grew tired of Doncic, and while they might have their reasons to feel that way, it still feels like a disservice to the franchise.
Only time will tell who actually won this trade, but today, it might be hard to feel good if you’re a Mavs fan.
