LaMelo Ball is one of the most thrilling point guards in the NBA but his team is a mess.

Once again, the Charlotte Hornets aren’t going to the playoffs this year and there are questions about what the future will look like.

Additionally, there is speculation about how long Ball will stick around in Charlotte if the team continues to struggle.

Michael Scotto recently touched upon this idea and suggested that time might be running out because Ball “wants to win competitively” and that simply doesn’t seem possible with the Hornets right now.

“He’s on a max contract, and they’re not winning, obviously, for the foreseeable future. For LaMelo, he wants to win. This is now going to be his fifth season. How much longer does he see himself there? That’s what I’ve been told. And I’ll say this, Matt—at the end of the day, I also think not being an All-Star and not winning affected him. He had the numbers on paper, but Charlotte’s record hurt his chances. From what I’ve been told, he wants to win competitively,” Scotto said, per NBACentral.

The Hornets recently turned a lot of heads when they nearly parted ways with big man Mark Williams.

Williams was initially sent to the Los Angeles Lakers, although that deal eventually fell apart.

But the fact that Charlotte was willing to cut ties with Williams suggests they might be open to shaking things up even more.

If they nearly said goodbye to Williams, could Ball be that far behind?

The former Rookie of the Year is averaging 26.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 7.0 assists per game this year, his fifth season with the Hornets.

The Hornets consistently come up short and Ball is spending his youth playing for a team that isn’t developing like it’s supposed to.

Additionally, his team’s poor standing may have affected his chance at an All-Star spot, which could influence his plans.

The situation in Charlotte isn’t great and Ball might grow impatient soon.

If he does, he would become one of the most coveted guards on the trade market and plenty of teams would do whatever they must to acquire him.
