The Phoenix Suns have emerged as a potential frontrunner to sign Jimmy Butler if he leaves the Miami Heat, but there may be difficulties.
According to Evan Sidery, Bradley Beal’s contract with the Suns could “significantly” complicate their attempt to get Butler.

As the Suns prepare to pursue Jimmy Butler, Bradley Beal’s contract has another issue that originally scared off some interested teams in 2023.
When asked by multiple teams if he would remove the no-trade clause entirely during trade talks with the Wizards, Beal refused.

Beal is one of the few NBA stars to have a no-trade clause written into his contract.
That means a potential trade has to be discussed with Beal and he can shoot down any offer that he isn’t happy with.
Obviously, this gives him an awful lot of power and it means he could veto a trade that would acquire Butler but send him away.
On top of that, any front office thinking of taking on Beal in a trade might balk at the concept of signing him with his existing no-trade clause.
This definitely complicates Phoenix’s plans for Butler, but it could also complicate their plans for any other trades in the future.
They are strapped for cash because of roster additions over the last few years, so Beal’s contract is one of the few tools they can use when making a trade.
If his contract doesn’t allow new signings, the Suns will be stuck.
The front office will have to work hard to figure out how to move Beal with his no-trade clause or acquire Butler while keeping Beal.
It’s a difficult situation they are in and they don’t want to miss their chance of getting Butler.
