As 2025 nears, Viktor Gyökeres has caught the attention of several top European clubs, with Sporting Lisbon reportedly open to selling their standout striker. However, one club appears to have the edge in the race for the Swedish forward.
L’Équipe’s Loïc Tanzi reported that Paris Saint-Germain are keeping a close eye on Gyökeres and are preparing a summer 2025 move. PSG’s sporting advisor, Luís Campos, has already reached out to the player’s representatives to begin discussions.
Manchester United are also in contention, with coach Rúben Amorim—Gyökeres’ former boss at Sporting—pushing for a reunion. The Premier League side seems determined to bring the striker to Old Trafford.
At the same time, SPORT claims that Barcelona are considering a €70 million offer for Gyökeres, with plans to loan him back to Sporting for an additional season.
Can Barcelona compete in the race for Viktor Gyökeres?
Diario AS notes that the Catalan side could find it challenging to win the transfer race for the Sporting standout. According to the Spanish outlet, Manchester United hold two key advantages over Barcelona in their pursuit of Gyökeres.
First, the English club has more financial power, allowing them to offer Sporting CP a higher transfer fee and the Swedish striker a better salary. Second, there’s the Ruben Amorim factor—Gyökeres has flourished under Rúben Amorim’s guidance.
Meanwhile, Barcelona may need to explore more budget-friendly options. One such candidate is Jonathan David, who will soon be out of contract and has openly expressed his desire to play at Camp Nou.
