Jimmy Butler’s time with the Miami Heat seems to be coming to an end, whether it is before the NBA trade deadline this season or in the upcoming offseason, as it appears the current window to win another championship is closing or is already closed.
Although executive Pat Riley has been reluctant to part with the current face of the franchise, the Heat trading Butler could be inevitable, with it becoming more and more apparent that the team as currently constructed isn’t able to contend with the best of the best in the Eastern Conference, namely the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers.
That said, the rumor mill has been buzzing about where Butler could land in the later stage of his NBA career, with two teams in particular being mentioned as potential destinations.
“Within league circles, there’s been quiet discourse about whether the Houston Rockets or Dallas Mavericks will eventually land Butler, a Texas native, should he and Miami decide to part ways,” Michael Scotto of HoopsHype wrote, via NBACentral. “For now, however, the Rockets are among the top teams with a young core, and the Mavericks remain a contender in the tightly competitive Western Conference. It’s also worth noting executives who’ve checked in on Butler got the impression that Miami wants to figure out their star’s future after the season.”

Only time will tell how things pan out in Miami regarding Butler’s future, but it is safe to say that if things keep trending in the current direction, the Heat will have to make a move.
If Houston or Dallas can land Butler, it could be a game-changing move for either franchise, as he might be the missing piece to the championship puzzle.
