Torino’s Vanoli: “The 1-0 cut our legs, we lost against a strong opponent”

Torino manager Paolo Vanoli addressed the media following his team’s 2-0 defeat to Bologna at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino. The coach expressed disappointment with the result but acknowledged the strength of their opponents.

Vanoli began by assessing the match: “We had a good first half, but we weren’t clinical with our chances. Karamoh played a very good game, but we can’t concede a goal like that. The 1-0 cut our legs a bit, our reaction was one of confusion without continuing what we had done in the first half. We could have reasoned better, then the episode of the second goal closed the game against a strong opponent.”

When asked about the difference between Torino and Bologna, Vanoli praised the visitors: “They demonstrated it last year by going to the Champions League, and now they’ve grown even more with European experience. It was a test for us, and until the goal episode, we were in the game and could have exploited situations better. We lacked quality in the final situations.”

Addressing the delicate atmosphere and fan protests, Vanoli emphasized the team’s responsibility: “We have to think about results. It’s up to us to inspire the crowd, we’re doing our best. Now we need to improve, the first goal can be easily avoided. We must fight and battle, now we have another important away game, and we know what our championship is about.”

The coach expressed his disappointment with the conceded goal: “Very much so… The boys also believed in playing a substantial match, which we partly did. Against the big teams, you can’t make mistakes, that episode cut our legs. But we must also learn to stay in the game until the end: a 1-0 can be recovered.”

Regarding the lack of shots on target, Vanoli commented: “I’m disappointed about the goal, we didn’t shoot on target, but many times we got there with Pedersen and Karamoh. Even Gineitis could have shot from a free kick instead of crossing, we lack a bit of cunning. We held our own against an important team, let’s look at our path.”

When asked about the need for a striker in the transfer market, Vanoli stated: “The market isn’t open yet. We always discuss. I met with the director after the match.”

Addressing Sanabria’s form, the coach said: “Sanabria is important, without Duvan he took responsibility, and now his personality needs to come out. There are no problems, but more is expected from these players. And he knows it too.”

Vanoli concluded with a message of determination: “I don’t get discouraged, I’m a warrior and I go forward giving 110%. If it’s not enough, I’ll give 120%: I’m responsible, I have to push. I’ve never given up, I won’t do it now.”
