Bologna’s Italiano on victory over Torino : “The reward is an extra day of rest”

Bologna manager Vincenzo Italiano addressed the media following his team’s 2-0 away victory against Torino, highlighting the importance of the win and its impact on the team’s morale. The coach began by expressing his satisfaction with the result:

“This is a victory that allows us to have a serene Christmas, which was today’s objective. We wanted continuity in positive results, and the boys have earned themselves an extra day of rest.”

Italiano acknowledged some difficulties in the first half, particularly after a missed penalty: “After the missed penalty, we became a bit disjointed and didn’t put Torino in difficulty. We could have changed the dynamic immediately.”

The manager praised substitute Thijs Dallinga, who scored his first goal for the club: “Finally Dallinga: we’ve been waiting for him for a long time. I told him, ‘It’s time you win us some games and score goals.’ He had come close many times, especially in the Champions League. Finally, he’s broken through, and it will be important to have a confident striker.”

Addressing the team’s ambitions, Italiano commented: “I allowed myself to talk about this because the president has this dream, he deserves the sweat because he wants to keep Bologna at important levels. We prepare to try to get there, game by game, with high ambition and playing as a mature team.”

On the team’s performance and areas for improvement, he stated: “Teams never achieve perfection, you can always adjust and improve with training. Next week we’ll analyze this first half, we were playing below rhythm and were slow. We seek improvement, then we can aspire to important dreams to stay attached to those more skilled teams.”

Italiano also praised the team’s defensive solidity: “I’m pleased with the defensive solidity, it comes from everyone’s sacrifice. And then also concreteness: I expect these aspects to always remain.”

Regarding Emil Holm’s performance, the coach said: “For me, he can do more in the offensive half of the field, he must push because he can go back and forth many times. In the first half, he was too submissive, but he’s also good at defending and has quality. He needs to exploit it better.”
