Helmed by acclaimed filmmaker David Michôd—renowned for intense dramas like "Animal Kingdom" and "The King"—the currently untitled project will delve into the true story of Martin’s ascent to fame as the most recognized female boxer in 1990s America.
Producers have dubbed Martin the “female Rocky,” highlighting her resilience and impact on the sport.
Sydney Sweeney Has Experience In Kickboxing
Sweeney is no stranger to the rigorous training required for a role like this, bringing her background in grappling and kickboxing to her portrayal of Martin.
“I grappled and did kickboxing from 12-19 years old. I’ve been itching to get back into the ring, train, and transform my body," she told Deadline. "Christy’s story isn’t a light one, it’s physically and emotionally demanding, there’s a lot of weight to carry. But I love challenging myself. Christy Martin not only legitimized female boxing, she overcame gender stereotypes, and fought through emotional, physical, and financial abuse."
The actress added, "I’m passionate about the fighting world, Christy’s story shines a light on her incredible rise to the top while showing the struggles of fame behind the curtains.
